A Tricount alternative for couples

Tricount is excellent for sharing group costs, and it is free with no ads. As a couple, day to day, you need something else: a fair rule when your incomes differ, tracking that lasts month after month, and private expenses that stay private. That is what WeZioo does, for free, on iPhone and Android.

What Tricount does really well

  • Free, no ads, no limits

Tricount promises "Free. No ads. No limits.": no advertising and no cap on expenses. Its former Premium plan was even discontinued with the new app.

  • A group in seconds

You can try it without signing up, invite your friends and add the first expenses straight away.

  • Built for travel

Multiple currencies, and the app works offline: expenses go through as soon as you are back online.

  • Quick to settle up

Each expense can be split equally or not, and the app offers payment requests to settle balances.

Where a couple needs something else

Tricount is designed around a group: one "tricount" per trip, per flatshare, per weekend. A couple shares a life, and three needs keep coming back.

  1. 01

    A split rule that sticks

When one partner earns more, many couples want to pay in proportion to income. Tricount lets you split an expense unequally, but saved custom splits were removed with the new app (the official help centre says they are planned for a future update).

  2. 02

    Month-after-month tracking

Rent, groceries, subscriptions: as a couple, spending never stops. You need to see the current month, what is left to spend and who owes what, without opening a new group each time.

  3. 03

    Some privacy

Not everything is shared. Tricount's personal mode went away with the end of Premium. In WeZioo, your private expenses sit next to the shared ones without mixing in.

Tricount also offers a payment card from the bank bunq inside the app. WeZioo is neither a bank nor a card: it is a tracking app for two.

"Not its focus": the publisher does not present this feature on its website as of 2 November 2026.

Is 50/50 fair when your incomes differ?

Tricount can split an expense unequally. You still need to know in what proportion: here is what the rule changes for a typical couple.

Camille earns €2,400 net a month, Hugo €1,600. Their rent is €900 and groceries and bills cost them €600: €1,500 of shared costs every month.

50/50

Camille · 50%Hugo · 50%

€750€750

Each pays €750. For Camille, that is about 31% of her income; for Hugo, almost 47%. Camille has €1,650 left, Hugo €850.

By income (60/40)

Camille · 60%Hugo · 40%

€900€600

Camille pays €900, Hugo €600. Each puts 37.5% of their income into shared costs. Camille has €1,500 left, Hugo €1,000.

No rule is right for everyone: some couples prefer 50/50, others an income-based split, others a mix depending on the expense. What matters is choosing it together, then never doing the maths by hand again.

Run the numbers with your incomes

Joint account or not, everyone pays their share

In WeZioo, you pick your rule once (50/50, by income or custom) and adjust it on a single expense when needed. The app works out who owes what as the month goes on, and the Balance button brings everything back to zero.

Got a joint account? It has its place in the app, next to your private expenses, for free. You also track budgets by category, with what is left to spend this month, and your shared savings goals.

When to stay on Tricount

For a trip with friends, a weekend away with a group or a flatshare, Tricount remains an excellent choice: free, ad-free and easy to share with everyone. You do not have to choose: keep Tricount for your friends and WeZioo for your couple.

WeZioo also handles trips: a separate budget, several currencies, other couples or friends invited, and settling up at the end of the stay (one trip included for free). But its home ground is your life together, month after month.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tricount free?

Yes. Tricount presents itself as free, with no ads and no limits. Its Premium plan was discontinued with the new version of the app, and some features that were part of it were removed, such as export and personal mode.

Does Tricount work for couples?

It can do the job, especially for sharing a few costs. But it is designed for groups and events. If you want an income-based rule, monthly tracking, a joint account and private expenses, an app built for two like WeZioo will feel more comfortable.

Can you split expenses in proportion to income?

In WeZioo, yes: you enter your incomes and the app applies the split to every shared expense, which you can adjust case by case. To try it with your own numbers, our free split calculator gives you the answer in seconds.

Is WeZioo free?

Yes, with no ads and no limit on expenses: 50/50 or income-based split, who owes what, joint account, private expenses, budgets by category and CSV export. WeZioo+ (€4.99/month or €29.99/year) adds advanced options, with a single subscription for both of you.

Do I need to link my bank account?

No. You add expenses in the app in a few seconds and your partner sees them right away. No bank account to link to get started.
